The message from local Springfield Lakes residents is clear. Keep our streets safe.
Following an article in the Springfield News on August 30th, more residents have come forward with concerns regarding and hooning and unsafe motoring practices in Springfield Lakes.
This culminated in a community twilight meeting called by Local Federal Member Milton Dick MP and State Labor Candidate for Jordan Charis Mullen.
Residents were also joined by Ipswich City Councillor for Division 9 Sheila Ireland and Shift Supervisor Senior Constable Peter Eleision from the Springfield Police Station to hear residents’ concerns in person.
Mr Dick said something needed to be done before the worst happens.
“Our local police are working hard to keep the streets safe, but more must be done to keep the community safe” said Mr Dick.
“Since the Springfield News article local residents have been in contact with my office about the frequent speeding and hooning taking place on Summit Dr and The Promenade in Springfield Lakes.
“As a result I have written directly to the Queensland Police Commissioner seeking his assistance to keep Springfield Lakes streets safe.
State Labor Candidate for Jordan Charis Mullen said it was an issue that is regularly raised by residents.
“This is one of the top issues in Springfield Lakes with families in particular telling me how concerned they are.“I’m really thankful that our Police have been working hard to address the problem, however it’s clear from this community meeting that more must be done.
“I’ll be making this a top priority for the area and working closely with Councillor Ireland and the local Police to make our streets safe.”
Feedback from residents includes cars ignoring line markings and crossing onto the wrong side of the road and late night burnouts.
