Suncorp Branch Protest

25 July 2018

Local Member for Oxley Milton Dick MP was today joined by a large crowd of local residents alongside Councilor for Forest Lake Ward Charles Strunk outside Suncorp Bank at Inala Plaza to protest their announced closure of the branch.

Despite Suncorp announcing earlier this year a profit of almost half a billion dollars ($452 million) and its CEO reported to earning close to $10 million dollars per year, the bank has announced it’s imminent closure next month on August 17th.

Mr Dick said local residents had a right to be upset and angry at this decision.

“It’s clear today from all those in attendance that this is the wrong decision by Suncorp who are choosing to prioritise profits before people” said Mr Dick.

“It’s very disappointing to see Suncorp short change local residents when we know all the large banks make huge profits.

In their most recent annual report, Suncorp cited an increased focus on elevating the needs of customers to deliver strong growth for the company (page 2).

“The decision to close the local branch clearly does not stack up to Suncorp’s supposed focus on the needs of customers” said Mr Dick.

“Today we’ve seen particularly elderly residents who will be hugely impacted by the closure of the branch.

“We’ve heard the horror stories from the banking royal commission about Suncorp and the big banks, so it’s time they cleaned up their act and started listening to their loyal customers”.
