Welcome back to 2017
Happy New Year and welcome back for 2017. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and found time to spend with family and friends.
In particular I’d like to wish a very happy Lunar New Year to our Vietnamese, Chinese and Korean Communities as we celebrate the year of the rooster. People born in the year of the rooster are said to be hardworking, resourceful and courageous.
Throughout 2016 I held multiple mobile offices throughout the electorate and will be doing so again this year.
It’s always great to meet with locals and hear their concerns, ideas and opinions for how we can make our community even better. I always value the input of residents and encourage you to drop by one of the many mobile offices I’ll be running throughout the year to have your say.
One of the topics I receive consistent feedback about is the upgrade of the Ipswich Motorway. Since being elected I’ve been fighting to see this happen as quickly as possible. I spoke in Parliament just last month about the importance of this critical upgrade and the benefits to the wider community.
I’m pleased to report that preliminary works are scheduled to begin early this year on the Darra to Rocklea section of the motorway. Once completed this will ease congestion and reduce the amount of time spent in traffic for motorists.
It was also wonderful to congratulate another round of young sporting champions recently. We have such a great depth of talented young people in our community who excel in their sporting pursuits. Congratulations to Rowan from Springfield Lakes, Noah from Forest Lake, Amelia from Bellbird Park and all the other recipients of the local sporting champions grant.
If you’re aged between 12 -18 and are travelling further than 125km to take place in a sporting event, visit www.aussport.gov.au to check if you’re eligible to apply for the next round of funding.
