Happy New Year and welcome back for 2018. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and found time to spend with family and friends.
Throughout the previous year the number one topic raised by locals was the rollout of the NBN. This has and continues to be a significant source of frustration for many residents, businesses and community groups who have been let down by the rollout.
During July and August last year over 500 local residents attended one of two NBN Crisis Meeting’s to have their concerns and troubles heard. Since that time the Government has also announced the suspension of the Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) rollout for a period of 6-9 months which will mean further delays for thousands of locals.
Whilst there is no quick fix, I am committed to ensuring the any residents, businesses or community groups who encounter troubles with the NBN have their matter resolved as soon as possible by NBN Co and their Retail Service Provider such as Telstra or Optus. If you are experiencing NBN issues, please contact my office.
I’m also pleased to announce the first round of successful applications for the Stronger Communities Grant Program. Almost $150,000 worth of grants have been allocated to groups throughout the community towards projects such as building restoration, storage facilities and the installation of air conditioning for charities.
Miraa House, St Vincent De Paul Inala, and C&K Kindergarten were among those to be included in the first round of announcements with more to follow soon. Liza and Monica from St Vincent de Paul Inala Family Support Centre (pictured) will be using the grant funds to improve facilities at the centre and install much needed air conditioning to help locals who volunteer with preparing food hampers.
As always, if there is anything I can assist with please email me at [email protected] or call my office on 3879 6440.
All the best for a happy and successful 2018.
